What Is Picture Sweep?
Picture Sweep is the Minesweeper-inspired picture puzzle in the Puzzle Page app. Like Minesweeper, every cell either belongs to the hidden picture or doesn't — and the numbers tell you how many of the 8 neighboring cells are part of the picture. Unlike Minesweeper, your goal is to reveal the picture cells, not avoid them.
Each daily Picture Sweep has a theme — a tree, a flower, an animal, a household object — that becomes visible once you've identified all the ‘mine’ cells. The finished grid is a small pixel-art rendering of that theme.
How to Read Our Picture Sweep Solutions
- The grid shows the final solved state. Cells that are part of the picture are filled in blue; background cells are white.
- Numbers inside cells — whether the cell is blue or white — tell you how many of the 8 adjacent cells are part of the picture. This is the information you used (or would have used) to deduce the solution.
- The puzzle title above each grid tells you what scene the picture depicts.
Strategy Tips for Faster Solving
- Start with the zeros. A cell showing
0guarantees all 8 neighbors are background — that's a lot of cells you can immediately rule out. - Pay attention to the corners and edges. Edge cells have only 5 neighbors; corner cells have only 3. High numbers on the edge are much more constraining than the same number in the middle.
- Look for the ‘forced’ numbers. If a cell shows
5and only 5 of its neighbors are still unknown, every one of them must be picture cells. - Cross-check with neighbors. Each picture cell is counted by every adjacent number, so a confirmed picture cell sometimes reveals other cells indirectly.

The most recent daily puzzle is the first card under Latest Puzzles, marked with a Today badge.
How is Picture Sweep different from Picture Cross?
Both are pixel-art puzzles, but they use very different deduction rules. Picture Cross gives you row and column counts — you fill cells based on the total filled count for each row/column. Picture Sweep gives you per-cell neighbor counts, much like Minesweeper.
